The Region of Oceania covers some of the world’s ultimate dream destinations!! These range from the extremes of the worlds’ most beautiful and appealing islands of French Polynesia with their white sandy beaches, warm gentle breezes and unbelievably turquoise waters, to the vast, sun dried deserts of outback Australia, Uluru and the amazing Great Barrier Reef, the dense tropical rainforests of Papua New Guinea, and the snow capped peaks, spectacular fjords and bubbling hot springs of New Zealand. Also for the more active people and the thrill seekers amongst us the region contains some of the best diving, snorkelling, hiking, sailing, bungy jumping, marlin fishing, skiing, fly-fishing, jet boating and surfing on some of the worlds’ best waves at North Shore, Teahupoo and Bells, plus endless sunbaking for those who wish to take life a little easier!! Home to the monumental statues of Rapa Nui, the fascinating rock paintings of Australian aborigines, the interesting native cultures of Papua New Guinea and the welcoming and friendly people of Hawaii and Fiji, Oceania’s offer endless opportunities to the casual visitor to enjoy some of the diverse places of interest and excellent attractions which are located in the area.
The Oceania Region consists of four sub-groups, being the island continent of Australia and the island groups of Melanesia, Micronesian and Polynesia. Some of the island groups within Melanesia include the worlds’ second largest island of Papua New Guinea and the islands of the Solomons, Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia and Norfolk. Whilst some island groups within Micronesia include Guam, Kiribati and the Marshalls, and Polynesia includes New Zealand and the islands of Tonga, Samoa, Rapa Nui, Cook, Hawaii, Christmas and French Polynesia. The area of Oceania covers an enormous part of the Pacific Ocean stretching from the cold, southern waters of New Zealand to warm northern waters of Hawaii. This in turn indicates the extremes of temperatures that can be experienced within Oceania, from the heavy snows and permanent glaciers of the south to the tropical palm fringed beaches of the north.
