For many visitors to Thailand the district of Muang Thalang is their first contact with this unique and captivating country. Muang Thalang covers the northern half of Phuket Island which is known for its hilly terrain and its many beautiful beaches, and has become one of Thailand’s premier tourist destinations. Phuket is the largest island in Thailand and is located on the western coast of the Malay Peninsula, and Muang Thlang provides the main access to the island by road and air. Highway 402 connects Phuket with mainland Thailand over the Pak Prah Strait, and Phuket International Airport provides a major gateway to the country for international visitors. The airport is located just over 30 kilometres north of Phuket city and is comprised of two terminals; terminal 1 being used by international passengers and terminal 2 being used for onward domestic flights. Phuket International Airport has grown to become the country’s second busiest airport.
