Drawaqa Island lies within the Yasawa Archipelago, which consists of 24 rocky, volcanic sun drenched islands, stretching for 80 kilometres north-west of Viti Levu. Drawaqa Island is located at the southern tip of Naviti Island, one of the six larger main islands in the group, and is a small hilly island made famous as a tourist location from which to see the Manta Rays. The resting rays can regularly be seen in the warm, shallow waters between Drawaqa and Nunuya Balalavu Islands, where they can enjoy the strong, rich currents between May and October each year!! Drawaqa also offers sandy beaches and stunning coral reefs which lie just off the beach from the Barefoot Resort. If you want a little exercise though, try the walking trail to the high point of the island for fantastic views of the surrounding coral reefs and the adjacent islands, or visit some of the traditional fishing villages. A local guide can be arranged from the resort. Drawaqa is also the overnight anchorage of the ‘Spirit of the Pacific’, a 108 foot, topsail schooner, which takes clients on island adventure trips throughout the islands.
