The Barossa Valley was established as a wine growing area by early German settlers in the 1830’s and has maintained a European flavour to the present day. Only 60 kilometres or just over an hours drive north of Adelaide, the picturesque gently rolling hills and shallow valleys make ideal wine growing country, and this has helped the area establish 50 vineyards during this time. Wine tasting is the major attraction, but there is more to do and see such as experiencing the German culture, tasting their foods in authentic restaurants, traditional bakeries and sightseeing many original Lutheran churchs and German houses, or perusing the art galleries, antique or craft shops.
