Castaway Island, or as it is traditionally known Qalito Island, at approximately 70 hectares, is one of the largest islands in the Mamanuca Group of islands, which lie to the west of Viti Levu, Fijis’ main island. Castaway is a hilly, volcanic island, covered in lush tropical vegetation, surrounded by glorious sandy beaches, crystal clear South Pacific waters and beautiful coral fringing reefs. It lies just to the north-west of Malolo Island, which is the largest island in the Mamanuca Island Group, and approximately 30 kilometres from Nadi airport. Castaway Island is one of the only islands in the Mamanuca Group which offers hilltop walking, from which great views of the other islands can be enjoyed. Walking around the island takes approximately 90 minutes, and this is the best way to enjoy the two long empty beaches of silky sand, and the beautiful views over the sea and neighbouring islands.
The island, which lies close to the Malolo Barrier Reef, is known for its good diving locations, with 20 dive sites within 20 minutes of the resort. The resort is accredited with the Padi International 5 Star Palm Status, meaning the resort offers highly qualified and experienced, supervisors and instructors, to assist their clients. The Malolo Barrier Reef is also known as a good reef surfing location.
