Sigatoka is a small, busy market town on the Queens Highway on south-west coast of Viti Levu, approximately 60 kilometres from Nadi, home of Fiji’s International Airport. The town lies at the mouth of the Sigatoka River on the far west end of the Coral Coast, a major tourist area, and the location of several hotel resorts in Fiji. Sigatoka is home to 7940 residents (1996), making the town the largest on the Coral Coast, and is the main commercial and service centre for the region.
The town is not really a tourist destination, however it is fun to walk around and a great place to experience the Fijian way of life. There are quite a lot of shops, usually run by Fijian-Indians, so bartering is good!! The market is worth a look, and while you are in town have a look at the Kula Eco Park, or maybe the Sigatoka Sand Dune National Park near Kulukulu village, about 2 kilometres south of town. If you want to make short trips, see if you can hire a bike!!
