Noosa is 160 kilometres north of Brisbane on the Sunshine Coast, south-east Queensland’s picturesque coastline. It is one of Australia’s premier beach holiday resort towns. Nestled between the pristine beach and Noosa Headland National Park, on the southern shore of Laguna Bay, lies Noosa Heads, a unique and wonderful community. The Noosa River runs through the heart of the town, and flows from springs fed by drainage in major sand deposits in the Great Sandy National Park, which lie to the north-west. The river system is reputably the cleanest river in south-east Queensland. Running north from Noosa is the 40 Mile beach, actually declared a road by the Queensland Government. It is accessible by 4X4’s and has an 80 KPH speed limit, and takes you north towards Rainbow Beach and Fraser Island.
Noosa is blessed with a wonderful sub-tropical climate, with summer averages of 17 to 28 degrees centigrade, and winter averages of 7 to 22 degrees centigrade. It is possible to swim all year round, with ocean temperatures never lower than 18 centigrade. The main beach in Noosa faces north, and is popular with surfers. However, depending on waves, surfers can quickly drive around the Heads to Sunshine beach if Noosa isn’t working. Water sports are popular and easily accessible, with offshore reef diving, swimming, surfing, sea kayaking, sea or river fishing, or just lazing on the lovely white sandy beaches. It’s also possible to explore the Noosa River system, with Lake Cooroibah and Lake Cootharabah to the north leading to the Everglade region. For the more active there is biking, horseback riding or climbing in the area. However, for the less active holiday, Noosa is well provided with a great range of shopping outlets, from boutique shops carrying major labels to locally produced arts and crafts. Add to this the diverse range of eateries, cafes and restaurants, life couldn’t be better.
