Maroochydore is a seaside town, situated on the Sunshine Coast, 100 kilometres north of Brisbane, and 40 kilometres south of Noosa. The town is at the estuary of the Maroochy River, which is at the heart of the Sunshine Coast, and is also the main business and shopping district in the area. Just south of Maroochydore is Alexandra Headland, which is part of the almost continuous strip of development that continues south to Caloundra. North from Maroochydore the buildings thin out and beaches, and National Parks take over. The town is well known for its golden surf beaches, fishing and boating activities. It is also home to a busy regional airport, which services the needs of the vast number of tourists that visit the region each year.
Maroochydore is a classic Queensland holiday destination, with a variety of activities to suit all visitors. Being on the coast with river access, lends itself to all forms of water sports, and is well supplied with recreational areas for picnics and relaxation. The local beaches cover all requirements, from surfing to quieter sheltered beaches for families, such as Cotton Tree. If shopping is your thing, Maroochydore is home to a wide variety of small shopping boutiques, eateries, cafes and restaurants. The area also is supplied with larger centres, with Big Top Shopping Centre and Sunshine Plaza, close by.
If you fancy a few things to see other than the beach, why not try the Endeavour Replica, or a short drive to Australia Zoo at Beerwah, or the Big Kart (go-kart racing) at Landsborough. Or maybe just have a scenic drive around the beautiful inland areas and enjoy the Glass House Mountains, or the Blackall Ranges.
Whatever you decide, there is lots to see in the immediate area, relax, kick back and have fun!!
