Bicheno is a small seaside town on the east coast of Tasmania, approximately 180 kilometres north east of Hobart. The town has a busy harbour, a great beach and is known for plentiful and good accommodation and for its access to Freycinet and Douglas Aspley National Parks.
The town itself has much to offer, the beach is known for being family friendly for swimming, and for its fishing, diving or surfing. The area was first established as a whaling centre in 1803, and this seafaring legacy continues today with fishing for crayfish, trevally, abalone and scallops still going on. The harbour comes alive when the crayfish boats come in at the end of the day and sell fresh produce. Services are available for hiring a boat for fishing charters and boat trips. Tours can be taken to see the Fairy Penguin colony which is near town, or maybe take a trip to the Blow Hole, Whalers Lookout or Freycinet Lookout.
