Coolum is a seaside township, with a population of approximately 18000, situated on, what is thought to be, the best surf beach on the Sunshine Coast. The town is half way between Noosa and Mooloolaba, and 135 kilometres north of Brisbane. Noosa is only15 kilometres north of Coolum. The town is famous for being the home of the Australian PGA Golf Championships, held here due to the accessibility to world class golf courses. Due to Coolum’s fantastic coastal location, the Nutri-Grain Iron Man series, and the National VB Surfboat series, are also held here.
Mount Coolum National Park is south of Coolum, and is dominated by the domed shaped summit and rugged escarpments of the mount (208 metres). From the summit, there are breathtaking 360 degree views, of the surrounding sugar cane fields and resorts. Mount Coolum is a major attraction in the area for bushwalkers and tourists.
Coolum is the largest beachside resort on Queensland’s southern Sunshine Coast. There are perfect viewing platforms over the beach from rocky headlands at Point Perry and Point Arkwright. The beach is a lovely, wide, open sandy strip, with long rolling surfing waves. The town has a lively cafe and restaurant scene, and is a great location for a lazy beach holiday.
