Just a stones thrown north of Kuta and seeming to be part of it, Legian is the central suburb of the three areas which form the main hub of the western resort district of southern Bali. Legion stretches along the same popular beach which attracts visitors to Kuta but yet provides a quieter more relaxed atmosphere and is known for its boutique style and first class hotels. Legian and Seminyak were just small villages a few years ago which due to their closeness to Kuta has ensured their involvement in the rapidly growing tourist industry. Initially the growth was witnessed through the number of small family owned guest houses, but many of these have gradually been replaced with larger hotel complexes which now attract a more mature and conservative visitor other the younger party-goers that flock to downtown Kuta for the hectic nightlife. Still providing visitors with a range of entertainments, Legian Beach offers visitors a quieter alternative and a more sophisticated nightlife-scene focusing on dining-out and socializing rather than full-on partying. The beach generally reaches its peak at sunset when the bars and restaurants fill up with happy and enthusiastic visitors.
