The beautiful tropical Phi Phi Islands are comprised of a small group of six islands which lie almost due south of Krabi and approximately 50 kilometres south-east of Phuket. The islands are surrounded by the sparkling waters of the Andaman Sea and of the six, Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Le are the two largest. Although tourism reached the islands during the early 1990’s they became international recognisable when the movie ‘The Beach’ was partly filmed in Maya Bay on Ko Phi Phi Leh in 1998. Considered by some to be the most naturally beautiful islands in the world, the stunning Phi Phi Islands are noted for their soaring limestone sea cliffs, caves and long white sandy beaches, and forms part of the Had Nopparattara - Koh Phi Phi National Marine Park which is home to an abundance of pristine corals and amazing marine life. The Phi Phi Islands are a popular tourist destination with most visitors arriving by boat although they can be reached by seaplane. The village of Tonsai, which is located on Phi Phi Don, is the bustling heart of Phi Phi and stands on the isthmus which separates Tonsai Bay on the south side and Loh Dalum on the north. Here, there are no cars or roads, only footpaths and life is easy!
