Matamanoa Island is part of the Mamanuca Group of islands and is located off the western coast of Viti Levu, the largest island of the Fijian archipelago. Matamanoa Island is a typical south-sea island paradise and lies approximately 35 kilometres north-west of Nadi International Airport, and can easily be reached via helicopter, or by boat from Denarau Marina. The island is located in the northern reaches of the archipelago and enjoys a magnificent panoramic seascape over the neighbouring islands of Mana, Tavua, Manu Riki and Yanuya.
Matamanoa Island boasts a central volcanic cone that rises above the surrounding turquoise waters which lap the golden sandy beach. This totally unspoilt island is covered in dense native bush, and palm trees tower above the bures of the Matamanoa Resort. The beautiful coral reefs and pristine waters around the island are a designated marine sanctuary and provide visitors with outstanding snorkelling opportunities. The resort is an adult-only retreat and offers visitors a crystal-clear, wet-edged freshwater pool and tennis court, plus a range of water activities which include diving, snorkelling, big game fishing, kayaking, windsurfing and sailing. It is not easily possible to walk around the island, although it is possible to hike to the top and enjoy unrestricted south-sea island views.
Matamanoa Island, in typical Fijian fashion, provides visitors with generally warm weather through the winter months and hot and humid weather during the summer. The summer months, December to March, are also referred to as the wet season although the western areas of Fiji are generally drier than the eastern parts.
