New Caledonia
New Caledonia is a little bit of France in the South Pacific!! It is located just 1200 kilometres east of Australia, in the south-western Pacific Ocean, and is a French Overseas Territory. This territory consists of the main island Grande Terre, the Belep Archipeligo which lies to the north, the Isle of Pines to the south, and the Loyalty Islands to the east. This island territory offers a wide contrast of scenery from the high mountain peaks of the main island, to the white sandy beaches and coral atolls of the Loyalty Islands, to the world’s second biggest coral reef and the world’s largest lagoon, all surrounded by the warm, crystal clear waters of the Coral Sea!! In addition New Caledonia offers a variety of cultures from the traditional Melanesian and Polynesian to the sophistication and style of the French colonials!! This is all easy to see and experience in the capital city, Noumea. A garden port-city located on a peninsula in the south-west of New Caledonia, Noumea is a modern city which has a distinct European feel, with wide boulevards, flanked by old colonial houses, many cafes, plush shopping and fine restaurants!! These exotic islands with their tropical climate are for people who want to get away from it all, a sunlovers paradise, and a wind surfers and divers dream!!

Although the islands are widespread, travelling between them can be done by ferry or plane, with services originating from Noumea.
