San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf is one of the city’s most popular tourist attractions and provides visitors with an insight into this thriving and vibrant local neighborhood which still centres around a working commercial fishing industry. Offering an endless variety of shops, restaurants, hotels and entertainment venues, Fisherman’s Wharf is a place to feel the atmosphere and experience all of the best that San Francisco can offer. Overlooking San Francisco Bay and the island of Alcatraz the hustle and bustle of a working ferry and fishing port can be really appreciated by walking around, visiting Fish Alley to see the local fishermen at work, checking out their boats along Jefferson Street, or just watching the constant movement of people as they board and depart on their cruises and charters around San Francisco Bay. If all this is too much, just explore the area to find the famous sea lions or visit some of the specialty shops in Ghirardelli Square, Anchorage Square or along Pier 39. Popular tourist attractions include the Wax Museum, Ripley’s ‘Believe It or Not’ Museum and the ‘Aquarium of the Bay’. Fisherman’s Wharf is also known for the Maritime National Park which includes the USS Pampanito and a fleet of historic vessels, plus a museum which is housed in an Art Deco styled bathhouse of the 1930’s. The Wharf Heritage Streetcar Line operates around the Wharf area of the city and provides frequent service with original period streetcars (trams) from around the world which adds a little more life to this already fascinating city.
