Lying north-west of Nadi on the central west coast of Viti Levu is Denarau Island. It is called an island, although it is really a small peninsular, having been reclaimed from the surrounding Mangrove swamps. It is accessed by a causeway, and covers approximately 250 hectares of residential and resort complexes, golf club and beautiful, tropical landscaped grounds. This development offers an area which enjoys easy access to the airport for overseas connections, inter island transport for the Mamanuca Islands, and some of the best weather in Fiji, being located in the drier, sunnier, west coast.
It is known as the largest integrated resort area in the South Pacific, offering a large variety of 5 star accommodation and activities, being home to a championship golf course and marina complex. The peninsula offers beach access to all resorts, and island transfers from the Port Denarau Marina.
Denarau is easily accessed via the Queens Road from Nadi Airport, which is 15 kilometres to the north, and through the town of Nadi. Hotel buses and taxi services make transfers quick and efficient.
